Top 10 Attractions In Las Vegas

$

0

Known the world over as perhaps the preeminent casino destination on the planet, Las Vegas has become much more than that over the decades. While the casinos and the gambling opportunities are still the main highlights, the city has become more of a total entertainment center, with something to offer to just about anyone who might be passing through. Accordingly, we’re taking a look not just at some of the best casinos, but at the top 10 attractions in the city.

The Bellagio Fountains

The Bellagio fountains may have become something of a cliché, but there’s a reason they’re often presented as the iconic image of Vegas. More than just lit up fountains outside one of the most historic casino resorts on The Strip, they’re effectively a show, and a free one at that. Stopping by to watch the fountains at night is an absolute must if you get to visit Vegas.

The Garden Of The Gods Oasis

There are lots of outstanding pools in Las Vegas, and in fact the “pool culture,” so to speak, has grown up a lot. There are now a few pools, most notably at the ARIA, that double as day clubs and throw raucous parties all day in good weather. But there isn’t another pool more impressive to see for the first time, or more quintessentially Las Vegas, than the Garden of the Gods Oasis at Caesars Palace. Picture a complex of huge pools surrounded by mock ancient Roman decor and you’ve pretty much got it.

The Fremont Street Experience

The Fremont Street Experience

The Strip deservedly gets most of the attention in Vegas travel guides, but Fremont Street is an increasingly trendy alternative. Packed with neon marquees, gift shops, and the stench of beer, this downtown district is full of really cool things to see and do, even if it’s hard to describe in bulk terms. In a way, it’s all of Vegas compressed into a smaller area, more like an indoor/outdoor market than a city of sky-scraping resorts.

Parasol Up & Parasol Down

These are two bars at the Wynn that are basically one two-story bar together. Parasol Up sort of bleeds into resort and is a little more low-key, but Parasol Down is described as a place where the locals go to drink. You can sit inside or out at the patio in front of a giant waterfall, and large crowds of people to watch walking by. There’s also a giant movie screen that shows various things at most hours of the day to keep you entertained. As bars go, it’s one of the best spots in town.

The ARIA Casino Floor

It wouldn’t be right to make this list without including a particular casino, though it’s tough to recommend one over the other. The Bellagio’s poker room is legendary, Mandalay Bay is considered fairly accessible for people who don’t want to spend too much, etc. But the ARIA, as one of the newer and more state-of-the-art resorts, may just have the best overall casino floor for visitors to enjoy.

Cirque du Soleil O

As with pools, casinos, bars, and most everything else, there are actually several different Cirque du Soleil shows to recommend in Las Vegas as well. While these shows still travel, there are some that have taken up permanent residence at various resorts, and O is probably the best and most unique of them. Performed at The Bellagio, it combines traditional Cirque du Soleil routines with a gigantic pool over (and in) which many of the stunts take place.

The NBA Summer League

This is a seasonal attraction (though in fairness so are the pools), but one sports fans should love. NBA team summer leagues move from city to city but there’s typically one in Las Vegas, and after a few opening games there’s a whole playoff schedule. It’s a 30-team single elimination tournament in Las Vegas, with all kinds of celebrities and league insiders flocking around the arena. It’s a whole different environment to watch professional basketball in, and a great excuse to go to Vegas in the first place.

The Venetian Canals

The Venetian resort is modeled after the aesthetic of the actual city of Venice, Italy, complete with artificial canals. Sure, it’s a little bit of a gimmick, but you might notice that pretty much the entire city of Vegas could be called the same. It just so happens that walking along The Venetian’s canals, or taking a gondola ride in them, is delightful.

Restaurant Guy Savoy

There are restaurants owned by famous restaurateurs all over Vegas – from Joel Rubuchon, Wolfgang Puck, Gordon Ramsay, and more. But Restaurant Guy Savoy may be the best of the bunch. As the chef’s only American venture, it boasts exquisite French fare and is set up as something of an oasis away from the hustle and noise of the casinos (whereas some other famous restaurants are right in the thick of things). The restaurant is located in the Augustus Tower at Caesars Palace.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental

Here again, we could have chosen a spa from any number of Vegas resorts, because all of the big ones have them. But the Mandarin Oriental – often called the best resort on The Strip now despite the fact that it doesn’t have its own casino – just does a particularly wonderful job. It’s a matter of opinion to some extent, but there isn’t a better spa in Vegas.

The Best of New York: Top 10 Things to See, Eat and Drink

Who here doesn’t want to go to New York for the first time and experience the Gossip Girl life for at least a couple of days? Well, probably the ones who didn’t watch Gossip Girl, but if you play at least one episode there’s no way in Hell that you wouldn’t want to have this experience. So, if you’re planning on going to the NYC for the first (or second, or third) time, you should definitely bookmark this amazing bucket list:

See a show on Broadway

See a show on Broadway

Broadway might not be the main reason why you’re visiting New York, but it would be such a shame to be there and not see one show in this amazing place. Yes, it can be a bit pricey, especially if you didn’t plan to be there, but you can also save this tip for your second time in NYC. The good thing is that you have a plethora of shows to choose from and they all differ in price, so you will be able to find something that you would like. Our tip is to go and see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, if there are any tickets left, that is.

Visit a teeny tiny bar in Manhattan

Visit a teeny tiny bar in Manhattan

When you go to Paris, you’ll definitely visit one of its many patisseries and have a nice croissant. In the same manner, you simply have to visit one of the many dark and small bars in Manhattan, as the experience is unforgettable. If you’re a beer lover then you should definitely check out the underground Rabbit Club on Macdougal Street. It’s extremely small and dark but definitely worth it.

Try a good NYC cocktail

If a place offers the widest range of cocktails, and it’s known for the best cocktails in the world – well, you’re thinking New York City, baby! If you hit a club or happening where some of the best practitioners of mixology in NYC are serving cocktails, don’t miss it out as you’ll be mind-blown. It just won’t do to be there and not try the best that this city has to offer, right?

See Old City Hall Station

See Old City Hall Station

You can go anywhere in the world and try fancy restaurant, but what about an abandoned railway station? First of all, the Old City Hall Station is extremely photogenic, and all of your photos taken there will be mesmerizing. Secondly, it really is a sight that you want to see at least once in your lifetime. You have to know how to get there, but once you manage you’ll see why it was worth it.

The obvious – Central Park

It’s our tip #5 but it’s probably the most obvious one. Get that Home Alone feel (especially if it’s winter, but CP is magical in all the seasons of course), and take a walk through the park. There’s something in getting lost there as well, as you will get to discover all the corners of this extraordinary place.

Try New York street food

Try New York street food

Surely you will see a street food truck anywhere you turn, and eating at one of the best street food joints is a must. Make sure to know where to eat, though, as not everything is tasty and sanitary. But the ones which are, should definitely be on your bucket list.

Visit a museum

7. Metropolitan museum of art

If you’re an alternative soul, then visiting a museum is a great way to start your NYC experience. The first museum that you could check out is the New Museum of Contemporary Art, which is very close to the Lower East Side. Another option is the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) which was founded in 1870. The museum is home to more than 5,000 years of art, so you will most certainly find something that you’ll like and enjoy.

Go out

Enjoy a Night Out in New York

The party in New York never ends, and we will not give you any tips on where to go to party – you can either do your homework online before going there, or simply take a walk and bump into one of its many clubs. This is the magic of NYC, you will find something excellent around any corner, and going with a plan just doesn’t work (especially when partying is concerned).

Eat at Coney Island

Coney Island

Bring those Lana Del Rey feels and be the Queen (or King) of Coney Island. Yes, you will see a lot of tourists there, but then again – so what? It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you simply have to have in your memory book. The first thing you should do is ride the Cyclone (face your fear of heights!) and then eat some tacos.

Hit the Gay Beach

10.Rockaway beach

And finally, for all the LGBTQ members (or anyone who loves this lifestyle), the next stop should be the Riis Beach, the loudest, liveliest and most colorful part of NYC. Disclaimer: Expect few clothes and lot of skin!

Ta-da! These are the 10 things that you simply have to do in NYC, so make sure to write them all down or simply bookmark this article. Trust us, they’re excellent. And once you check all these tips from the list, write to us and say what you think of them!

Hiking Boot Buying Guide

When purchasing a new pair of men’s hiking boots you need to answer a few questions about the location of your hike to ensure you can buy the best pair.

What type of terrain will you be Hiking?

The Hiking Terrain can vary from rugged mountain passes, deep canyons, rainforests or arid dry deserts. Some trails have lots of larger rocks, streams and rivers while some can be completely flat and dry.  You need to ensure the boot you select can handle the terrain you intend to hike. Some of the better boots will adaptable however some people do prefer to have multiple pairs of boots depending on where they are hiking.
10 Best Men’s Hiking Boots in 2017 - Hiking Terrain

What is the length of your hike?

You also need to consider what type of hiker you are and how far you intend to go. Do you hike socially as a nice afternoon stroll or do you head out for weeks camping and tackling some of the bigger trails. Some people prefer good solid boots while some people like hiking sandals or even trail running shoes.

What is the climate of the area you will be hiking?

Are you planning on hiking in outback Australia on dusty tracks with little rainfall, or are you looking to head into the rainforests of Peru. The climate you face is an important factor in choosing the best men’s hiking boots. For colder and potentially snowy conditions you need to make sure your boots are waterproof while hotter conditions may require open shoes or lighter material.

All of the Men’s hiking boots that we have included in this 2017 review have been tested in a range of different terrain and weather conditions. Once you have determined your terrain, length and climate conditions of your hike you need to determine what type of boot you are looking for. Comfort of the boot is one of the most important factors to consider, as mentioned earlier you do not want to get caught with blisters while on day 1 of the hike or backpacking far from home.

Other factors to consider when selecting the perfect pair of hiking boots are

How comfortable are the boots?

Comfort is obviously very important when choosing you new hiking boots. You will be wearing them constantly particularly on a longer hike and you need to ensure they suite your foot shape and feel right. Only you can make that decision as different shoes can fit differently

What material are the boots made from?

The material of the hiking boot is important to consider as different materials perform differently. Some cheaper materials will sweat or can be a lot heavier. You should look for materials that allow for lightweight and breathable pair of boots.

What is the weight of the hiking boots?

The weight of the boots is also very important as you will be wearing them for long periods of times, wearing heavy boots your feet will feel tired a lot quicker which makes the rest of your body tired. You also want to ensure than the boots are solid and offering the right level of support.

What is the grip and traction like?

A good pair of hiking boots should have good traction, like a good set of tires for your car the traction or grip ensures you can venture into more difficult terrain without any risks of slipping. The traction also allows for water to escape the bottom of the boot.

How much foot and ankle support is provided?

Hiking Boots need to offer good support to avoid injuries to your ankles or feet. Support can be a personal preference as some people like low cut like trail runners or sandals while others like mid or high supports.

How water resistant are the boots?

Water resistance can be achieved depending on the type of materials used, some materials offer natural protection by creating a membrane to prevent the water from penetration the boot. This can cause the shoes to sweat more as natural body heat also cannot escape. There are also after market water proofers available than can offer more resistance to water.

How good are the insoles provided with the boots?

Insoles help provide cushioning that is required to soften the impact of each step while walking, some are also available to reduce micro bacterial growth that causes smelly feet and sweating. Again there are some good after market inner soles available, you need to be considered when selecting your hiking boots as some cheaper boots can be greatly improved by adding a good pair of inner soles.

What are the different types of hiking boots?

Hiking shoes: Hiking shoes are usually boots with a low cut and the mid-soles are usually more flexible allowing for more comfort. These low cut shoes fit more like a running shoe and are excellent for day hiking. If you are looking for the ultimate lightweight shoe then these are probably your best option. View the Range of Hiking Shoes

Day hiking boots: Hiking Boots designed for day hikes are usually mid cut or high cut and are still light weight but offer more support than Hiking Shoes. They are a bit more rigid and usually made of a higher quality leather. These are quite popular because they can also be used for shorter and longer hikes if required. View more Hiking Boots

Backpacking boots: Backpacking boots are designed for longer hikes and multiday trips which require heavier load/. Most of these boots have a higher boot cut and provide excellent support for ankles. Usually heavier than day hiking boots they offer a lot more stability. View more Backpacking Boots
With all these factors in mind we have compared almost 50 different hiking boots from some of the best hiking brands available to find what we believe are the 10  Best Men’s Hiking Boots you can buy online in 2017.

Best Travel Photos – Ross Louis Klein is a filmmaker and photographer from New York. His travel photography can
be seen at wanderlost.photler.com, and his other work at rosslouisklein.com

The following are his 10 favorite travel Photos

A Dance of Balloons – Cappadocia, Turkey

A Dance of Balloons - Cappadocia, Turkey
Cappadocia is an immensely photographable place, and is famous for their sunrise hot air ballooning. I lucked out that morning; it was looking like there wasn’t going to be much a sunrise due to clouds, and in fact shortly after this shot was taken, it did get a bit cloudy, but for a good 20-30 minutes, the colors and light were perfect. I like this shot in particular because I was able to frame all of the balloons in such a way that they almost create an abstract shape in the frame, thus me titling it “A Dance of Balloons.” Also, fun fact, this was my first Instagram picture to break 100 likes (I really need to work harder on the social media game).

Bison Crossing – Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA

Bison Crossing - Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA
In the summer of 2014, I packed up my life in Los Angeles after three years of feeling a bit useless and decided to take my time driving back across the country to New York. I stopped in many cities and national parks during my 49 day trip, but Yellowstone was an absolute highlight. Despite some clouds and rain, it was an epic day, especially when a herd of bison decided to nonchalantly cross the road directly in front of my car. I jumped out of the car and, keeping a safe distance of course, started gleefully shooting away.

Cuba in Color – Havana, Cuba

Cuba in Color - Havana, Cuba
My most recent trip was a month-long stay in Cuba. I spent much of my time in Havana, which is an incredibly unique and fascinating city, seemingly stuck in this strange time warp of old and new, but changing rapidly. The city and its inhabitants made me perceive and appreciate color in a way I hadn’t really had an opportunity to before, at least in the natural world. Most of the places I have previously visited just simply do not have the vibrant colors on display that Havana has at every corner. I started making photo missions for myself to capture very formal, straight-on compositions of a subject wearing a color that balanced or complimented their surroundings. I was keen on memorizing the question “Te peudo sacar unafoto?” very early on. This unhappy looking guy in green didn’t mind a bit.

Fethiye Fly – Oludeniz, Turkey

Fethiye Fly - Oludeniz, Turkey
Similar to my shot from Cappadoccia, this was taken from the air, though this was a much more exhilarating ride. Having arrived in Fethiye with no plans or ambitions, I learned it was one of the paragliding capitals of the world, so naturally, I booked myself a glide, but was sure to book with a company that would allow me to bring my own camera in the air (I think I had to pay extra for that privilege, but it was worth it). My tandem instructor and I bused up the mountain to the peak overlooking Oludeniz in the early morning, and I start shooting the incredible views and he prepared. Soon after, he strapped me in, pointed us off the face of the cliff, then said, “Okay, start running.” As someone who historically has been afraid of heights, I surprised myself by not hesitating for even a split second, and sure enough, ran straight off of a mountain. We were airborne for over 30 minutes, which I believe is quite a long time for these things; the wind was perfect, and my instructor was killing it. This shot is looking straight down at the gorgeous Blue Lagoon of Oludeniz Beach. It’s not very often you find yourself experiencing and able to photograph beautiful locales like this from this perspective. It is a highlight of my life.

Jajce Falls – Jajce, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Jajce Falls - Jajce, Bosnia and Herzegovina
About 100 miles (160 km) northeast of Sarajevo in central Bosnia and Herzegovina is the small village of Jajce. While planning my route through the Balkans, I took one look at a picture of the Pliva Waterfall and knew I was going. Apparently considered “one of the twelve most beautiful waterfalls in the world” (I do not know whose job and authority it is to award and endorse these things, but there you go), it is truly something to behold. Like something out of The Lord of the Rings, it looks like a fairy tale village, especially from the view across the Pliva river where this long exposure was taken.

Light and Dark, Young and Old – Jerusalem, Israel

Light and Dark, Young and Old - Jerusalem, Israel
2014 was the first year I started really taking pictures on my iPhone, and made me consider that maybe, in certain circumstances, it can actually be a pretty impressive photographic tool. My Canon’s shutter froze on day one of my trip to Israel, so I resorted to my iPhone out of necessity, but I’m very happy I had it. I knew as soon as I saw this mother and daughter walking down towards me that it was going to be a special picture. The mother is wearing a headscarf while her daughter is not, presumably because she has not yet reached the age where it is considered necessary, and so the light and shadow of the scene takes on a certain symbolism: the traditions of old separated in the shadows, the daughter and her youth representing the future bathed in light. It is entirely possible that one may not give the image this reading unless otherwise encouraged to do so, but I love images like this that invite symbolic or thematic readings.

Lunch Guest – Istanbul, Turkey

Lunch Guest - Istanbul, Turkey
This picture was taken during an amazing lunch with some friends I met while traveling. We stumbled upon this restaurant with an incredible view of the city and the Bosphorus, and shortly after our food arrived noticed that scores of seagulls were circling our table. After we had finished eating, I pushed some of our uneaten food over to the corner of the table to kind of bait the birds into diving in, thinking it would make for a great picture. This guy landed on the table and took some quick bites, seemingly anticipating to be shooed away immediately. I clearly had no intention of doing so, as I was loving the photo opp. The bird caught on and seemed to look at us a bit confused as to why he was being allowed to stay on our table, and then began to more leisurely eat as our guest. It was an incredible day with some incredible people, and this picture is a reminder of the immense fun one can have with the wonderful strangers you meet while traveling.

Shi Shi Beach – Olympic National Park, Washington, USA

Shi Shi Beach - Olympic National Park, Washington, USA
A few weeks into my 2014 road trip, I met up with some college friends I had not seen in years in Seattle. Eric and Laura along with Laura’s dog Dozer joined me for a few days of exploring and camping in the Olympic National Park, including this epic stop at Shi Shi Beach, which may be one of the most scenic locations in the entire Pacific Northwest. I knew as soon as I pressed the shutter on this shot of Eric throwing rocks for Dozer that is was a winner. It is one of my favorite pictures I have ever taken.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants – Meteora, Greece

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants - Meteora, Greece
Meteora, Greece is an awe-inspiring place. Literally meaning “suspended in air” it is a complex of six Eastern Orthodox monasteries in northwestern Greece. Built on and surrounded by otherworldly rock pillars as early as the 12th century, it is a sight to behold. Walking from the highest and largest monastery back down to Kalambaka below was a wonderful experience, and resulted in some breathtaking pictures. This shot is clearly not of one of the monasteries (though a couple of those shots were in contention for this list), but rather of a couple standing on top of a rock across the way and admiring the view. I am grateful that they are wearing the bright colors of light green and orange, because they are so clearly noticeable and truly pop from their surroundings. This picture is a wonderful reminder of how small we really are, and how nice it can be to truly feel that change in perspective, step back and just breathe it all in.

Vancouver Reflection – Vancouver, Canada

Vancouver Reflection - Vancouver, Canada
Another stop on my 2014 road trip, I went to Vancouver after having made a friend who lived there a few weeks earlier in Lake Tahoe (one of my favorite parts of traveling: the people you meet for only a brief time but still open up their homes and lives to you down the road). On this day, I walked almost the entire circumference of the city and had a peacefully introspective time on my own reflecting on the past weeks of my road trip, and the future stops awaiting me. This shot was taken on the Seawall of the massive Stanley Park, the still Vancouver Harbor providing an excellent reflection of the gorgeous cityscape.

Big Ben

Big Ben, London, United Kingdom
The 150 yr old Big Ben Clock Tower is one of the most iconic views of London and among the first places most new London travelers visit. The term Big Ben does not refer to the clock tower, but to the bell located inside the tower and gets its name from the person who first ordered that bell, whose name was Sir Benjamin Hall. The Big Ben bell had been built in 1858 after a bell of 15 tons cracked irreparably 2 yrs prior. The clock has turned into a preferred attraction and has made an appearance in many motion pictures. For example, in the film Mars Attacks! the Big Ben is demolished by a UFO strike.

Westminster Abbey

Westminster Abbey, London, United KingdomWestminster Abbey is actually a huge, mainly Gothic church situated just to the western side of the Palace of Westminster. It’s probably the most notable religious building within the UK and is the traditional site of coronation as well as burial for the English and, later on, the British kings. Most of the existing building dates from 1244 to 1272 while Henry III made a decision to rebuild a vintage abbey in the Gothic design. The building was afterwards considerably expanded: the Chapel of Henry VII was included in between 1502 and 1512, whilst the 2 West Front Towers date from 1745.

Palace of Westminster

The Palace of Westminster (more commonly called the Houses of Parliament) happens to be the seat of Parliament within the UK. The existing building mainly dates from the nineteenth century while it was rebuilt following a fire. The House of Commons (the elected Parliament members) is situated to the building’s north and is embellished with green leather-based upholstery, and the House of Lords is situated towards the south and furnished with purple leather upholstery.
Directions: As above, Westminster station is the closest tube stop to the Houses of Parliament.

St. Paul’s Cathedral

Constructed in the seventeenth century, St. Paul’s Cathedral is among London’s most well-known and most identifiable sights. This Cathedral was heroically rescued by the firefighters while it was bombed during the 2nd World War. Its remarkable dome, influenced by St Peter’s Basilica in Rome, rises 120 meters (365 feet) to the cross at its peak. It had been the highest building in the city from 1710 to 1964, and its dome is also one of the highest on the planet.

Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square, London, United Kingdom
Trafalgar Square is actually a huge city square commemorating the victory of Lord Nelson against Napoleon’s navy in 1805 at the Battle of Trafalgar. The main monument inside the square is a solitary tall column on which Nelson’s figure stands looking over London. His monument is encircled by 4 huge lions and a number of large fountains. Much more than simply an open plaza, the Trafalgar Square is among the most well-known city squares on earth (similar to times square in New York) and has become a social as well as a political spot for travelers and Londoners as well.

Tower of London

The Tower of London, currently home to the British Crown Jewels, was constructed in 1078 by William the Conqueror. It actually served as a jail from 1120 to the middle of the twentieth century. It has led to the term “sent to the Tower”, which means imprisoned. Well-known prisoners include King Henry VI, Sir Thomas More, Anne Boleyn and also Catherine Howard (spouses of King Henry VIII) as well as Rudolph Hess. Nowadays the Tower of London is probably the most in-demand London tourist attraction.

It’s the most well-known paid tourist attraction in the UK, frequented by more than 3.5 million folks yearly.

British Museum

Venice (Italy)

Romantic Venice Accommodation

Absolutely no list of romantic destinations should ever be made to exclude the Queen of the Adriatic, for when it comes to European cities, Venice is the epitome of romance where enchanting streets and antiquated cobblestones are merely a prelude for an unforgettable experience.
That being said, we really should not ignore how these beautiful facades bring character to the city and it is often the winding alleyways infused with beautiful facades that make Venice so endearing. Walking across another dainty bridge and beneath a Gothic archway, it’s easy to imagine the very old world which once found itself here and it is this very sense of wonder which so often adds even more magic to a visit. Another highlight of a trip to Venice is the small detail which make it one of the most romantic places for a honeymoon in Europe as few neighbours can rival the myriad of streets you will find and passages overflowing with hidden coffee shops and eateries to enjoy.

And then there are experiences to be found at any time of day, whether you decide upon an authentic gondola ride beneath the city walls or a candlelit dinner in a four star restaurants, an evening stroll on Piazza San Marco, some delicious gelato in a nearby corner shop or even a day trip to San Giorgio island where you can climb the bell tower for the most stunning panoramas.
Venice is a excellent romantic destination and is perfect place for a loving couple and one of the world’s most popular honeymoon destinations.

New York (United States)

Central Park New York is one of the Top 10 Romantic Travel Destinations

New York is somewhere you will always return in order to see everything you missed out on the last time. Honestly, as far as cities go, there cannot be anywhere with the same number of attractions, things to do and experiences in such close proximity. Although New York is renowned for the hustle and bustle, to each their own, this is definitely the ideal romantic destination of many people’s dreams.
Homemade spaghetti in Little Italy, panoramic views at the Empire States Building, a brush with history at Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, people watching under the lights at Times Square, marveling at the talent in a show on Broadway and taking a romantic picnic or stroll through the peaceful haven of Central Park. If you wish for things to do and an action packed vacation then New York has all of that with the added bonus of being quite romantic too. Yes, there is the finest dining here and world class restaurants but the excursions above are all intimate experiences which you will naturally do together.

It must also be noted that hotels and accommodation in New York is some of the best in the world with luxurious interiors and romantic spas in many of them. If you want comfort in the middle of all the action, bright lights and fun packed days out, the Big Apple is calling.
New York can be chaotic or romantic, it really depends on where you go and how you decide to feel about the experience but either way, it is an enthralling place to spend time and one which will stay with you a long time after you have left.

Bora Bora

Bora Bora Resort

Bora Bora Resort

When you consider the most idyllic honeymoon destination, you could be forgiven for imagining white powdered sands, an umbrella beneath the sun and crystal blue waters but is that really enough to make it “perfect”? For some yes, but for others maybe not and this is one reason for which Bora Bora is so popular with couples who want a little more than just relaxations. You see, it has the beaches, the white sands, pristine waters and distinct feeling of paradise but then it also has a lot more to offer than meets the eye.
Having rested next to the infinity pool for a few days, there is always an option in Bora Bora to keep active including scuba diving, parasailing or snorkelling and with many wilderness areas nearby, hiking amidst the luscious rain forest is always a popular thing to do. You simply cannot be bored on the island, for when you start to feel restless, adventures are always waiting and when if it feels a little subdued, the local nightlife is a lively way to spice up an evening.

Adventures on the ocean and getting lost in the rain-forest, maybe you don’t want to stay active on your honeymoon at all and this is just fine because most visitors prefer it this way in Bora Bora too. Just know that Bora Bora is synonymous with the word paradise and best known for being somewhere to unwind without a care in the world. With a cocktail in hand and a red sun setting on the horizon, you will need no reminders of this or that Bora Bora can be one of the most relaxing honeymoon destinations in the world
Although Bora Bora is renowned for high end five star resorts and expensive lodges, there are many options in the mid-range so visiting this paradise is always possible and regardless of your accommodation, the surroundings are always the same.

Kendwa Beach (Zanzibar)

Kendwa Beach is one of the 10 Romantic Honeymoon Travel Destinations

Many resorts find themselves dotted around the shorelines of Zanzibar, a small island off the coast of Tanzania, but in truth, some of them are just too busy and others not so appealing in general. Kendwa Beach is the answer to your concerns and is possibly the most unique honeymoon destination on this list.
Yes there are long sandy beaches in Zanzibar and Kendwa is possibly the nicest of them all, there are unforgettable sunsets and then also no end of places to watch it go down in the evening with a cocktail. But one thing about Zanzibar which truly stands out is the fascinating history and culture which runs through the islands. For example, you can spend a day in Stone Town and unearth a dark part of history learning about the slave trade before travelling to the outskirts and watching as a guide brings the local spice plantations to life. You will also find how food is a remnant of an interesting past as found in the variety of mouth-watering curries, seafood or hand-made delicacies and when it comes to architecture, the fortified walls of the ancient Arab Fort are an example of the rich heritage which seems to be visible on every corner.

Snorkeling and scuba diving are popular here of course but another highlight which makes Kendwa Beach such an ideal romantic honeymoon destination are the number of restaurants along the water front. Situated at the front end of luxury hotels, a reservation can be made quite easily for these restaurants and sitting next to the water’s edge with the moonlight shimmering across the Indian Ocean, you can imagine the scene as a platter of sumptuous lobster, calamari and prawns finds its way to your table.

Santorini (Greece)

Santorini, Greece. Luxurious and Romantic Destination
Maybe it really is the ancient civilization behind it or maybe it really is just the fact that this part of the world is so utterly captivating. Either way, Santorini is the most sought after of all the Greek islands and perfect for a honeymoon. Sensational views, scintillating food and an abundance of heritage, it feels like stepping back in time when you visit Santorini but the experience will have you back in the moment just as fast.

The setting is almost like a fairy-tale on the island, for it is here you can find small cottages next to the marauding ocean and ancient churches next to charming coffee shops. In fact, the town is only an introduction for the pre mentioned scenery is just breath-taking and the sight of the sun going down along the rugged shoreline is enough reason to know why even the Greeks on the mainland choose Santorini over anywhere else in Europe.
With remote hillsides to explore and many wineries in between, there are always activities to do in Santorini which are then complimented by sublime traditional food but it’s the wide variety which is so appealing in Santorini and the reason for which you will most likely want to return. Why not book one of the luxurious villas.

Cape Town (South Africa)

Romantic Capetown
Cape Town is often referred to as the most beautiful city in the world and with many similarities to Rio in Brazil, it would be hard to argue. Standing tall above the city and surrounded by ocean, Table Mountain marks the spot for what is one of the most enjoyable and romantic honeymoon destination in 2017.

Now, you may be wondering what is so romantic about a major city like Cape Town. Thing is, Cape Town is not just a major city but a destination with no end of experiences. There are ways to find romance at even the most visited attractions such as a picnic on the above mentioned Table Mountain or champagne for two at the V&A Waterfront but it’s also easy to escape the crowds and find time in equally stunning locations. Renting a car for a few days is very inexpensive and allows for freedom to check out some sights along. The Cape of Good Hope, Chapmans Peak, Lions Head and the botanical gardens at Kirstenbosch; these are all perfect for finding some alone time and drinking in the surroundings.

Except it really is the activities and day trips from Cape Town which will explain best as to why it is such a great destination for a honeymoon as they provide such an easy way to do something fun and memorable together. Travel along the coast to go whale watching in Hermanus, visit the penguins at Boulders Beach, have some quiet time on the beautiful beach in beach Camps Bay or enjoy a tour of the world class wineries in nearby Franschhoek and Stellenbosch.

Ireland

Romantic Ireland
Many years ago, there was a Hollywood movie which is still attracting lovers all over the world to the magical island of Ireland. “Ps. I Love You” followed the story of a young American lady who fell for a charismatic Irishman but the sad ending to this movie did nothing to dissuade anyone from arriving in the Emerald Isle.

Forever warm, friendly and welcoming: the locals have a reputation for providing the highest level of hospitality in Ireland and this is often the true appeal or reason as for why many people visit. However, this is not the only reason it makes such a fantastic honeymoon destination as can be seen in the incredible attractions around the country. Standing on the west coast, the Cliffs of Moher are an imposing force of nature, the Ring of Kerry are the magical green fields you had hope to find and the Giants Causeway up north is clouded in all kinds of mystery. Ireland is ideal for a road trip and perfect for exploring the outdoors with a loved one.

With that aside, we must go back to the mention of hospitality and friendliness, for it is upon meeting the locals in Ireland that you realise the journey, it is when encountering such friendliness that you want to return these gestures and it is feeling this love in general that you will want to pay it forward. Ireland really is a beautiful place with luscious landscapes and mysterious attractions but the real reason it makes such a perfect honeymoon destination is the way this island will make you both feel.

Paris (France)

Eiffel Tower, Paris
As with Venice in Italy, it would be difficult to make a list of honeymoon destinations without any inclusion of Paris. Located in the heart of Europe and being a major hub itself, Paris offers a much different type of vacation to most other places on this list. Naturally this is for the reason that it does not have a beach, rolling landscapes or resemblance to paradise although this is just fine for some travelers who want a little more substance and a little more things to do.

Home to the Louvre and an endless number of museums, art lovers and history buffs will fall in love with this city without even looking outside. Yes, it is no secret that the “City of Love” has more historical attractions than you will have time to see and this should not take away from the experience. Yes, witnessing the Mona Lisa for the first time or standing in the middle of Musee D’Orsay will appear more romantic than any beach to many and then there are the many landmarks and buildings which evoke a deep sense of mystery. Pantheon, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower, the famous attractions here are romantic in themselves and the sheer number of them is staggering.
By the time you taste the world famous cuisine made by Michelin Star chefs, you should need wonder no more as to why this beautiful city of lights is so popular and for why anyone who comes here on a honeymoon is likely to fall so in love, with the city of love itself.

Inca Trail (Cusco, Peru)

Macchu Picchu - Inca Trail
Maybe you are both active individuals and all you want is an adventure together or a challenge in a beautiful part of the world. In that case, there are few treks or experiences quite like the Inca Trail in Peru, South America.

Leading to the Sun Gate and the infamous UNESCO World Heritage site below called Machu Picchu, the Inca Trail is a multi-day hike which will take you far from home and leave you both in the midst of an exciting adventure. Over stunning mountain ranges, past glaciers, remote villages and tribespeople, this really is a once in a lifetime opportunity and a chance for you to do something truly memorable together.
Having pitched your tent in the evening, the porters will make your meals so you don’t need to worry about that and the surroundings are so peaceful you can also expect a good rest in the evenings. However, it is the journey you will remember and the sight of the ancient Inca civilization at the end of it that will be unforgettable. So much legend lies beneath this UNESCO site and the overall experience is one that makes this perfect for a more adventurous honeymoon destination.

Koh Tao (Thailand)

Koh Tao in Thailand is one of the Top 10 Romantic Honeymoon Travel Destinations
Even though neighboring Koh Samui has a larger number of luxury hotels which are ideal for an incredibly romantic honeymoon or a perfect place to propose, the real attraction of Koh Tao is a distinct absence of crowds in most parts of the island. Aside from the main backpacker’s resorts which you pass upon entry, taking the road less traveled around this island to one of the many secluded resorts is well worth the effort and also a lot more affordable than Koh Samui.

Imagine waking up on a four poster bed, a gentle breeze passing through the room and an expanse of turquoise waters straight ahead. These are the kind of scenes you can expect daily in Koh Tao and while it may take some time to filter out the busy resorts, you can always find some truly stunning accommodation right on the ocean and away from the noise.

Again, the absence of crowds or backpackers in most of Koh Tao will often be the highlight for couples wanting to be by themselves as it is quite east to travel to other parts of the island (rent a bike or using local transport) which are quiet, scenic and romantic. That being said, maybe you don’t want to be alone the entire time and want a bit of atmosphere some evening, in which case the lively resorts are always within reach and easy to get back from at the end of the evening.

Stunning infinity pools, private butlers, personal chefs and more; if you are unsure of whether to choose Koh Tao for your honeymoon just check out Monkey Flower Villa or Jamahkiri Resort and start looking forward to this beautiful island in Thailand.

10 Best Ski Resorts In The World – (Updated for 2018)

With winter season reaching its peak all throughout Europe and even slowly starting to wind down, this could be your last chance to grab the deal for some of the best ski centers in the world. Whether you’re an absolute rookie when it comes to skiing and boarding or you consider yourself a veteran skier with years of experience – this list of best ski resorts in the world got you covered!

So you better start packing yourself and let’s get going!

Zermatt, Switzerland

If you are down for an ultimate mountain-like experience than you definitely need to try Zermatt ski resort out. It is located on the slopes of Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps. Although it’s not coming on the cheap side and can be a little pricey even for them who don’t worry much about the price tag – Zermatt is definitely worth every dollar.

Riksgransen, Sweden

If you’re already running late on your schedule for this winter’s vacation – don’t worry! This ski resort is located just 200 km away from the Arctic circle. Being so far north means that winter is peaking no earlier than April or May here, which is usually considered summer in the rest of the Europe continent.

Riksgransen is abundant in snow even during the summer months and can challenge and entertainment for everyone.

Whistler, Canada

Heading further to North America, Whistler is presumably the best Canada can offer when it comes to having fun on the snow. With more than 200 active pistes, Whistler is a definite go-to for both pro and amateur skiers. And it’s within 2-hour drive from Vancouver airport.

St. Anton, Austria

This European country is well known for its brilliant and entertaining ski resorts. If we would be thinking of the best one to ski, St. Anton probably wouldn’t make it to that list.

But what makes this ski resort stand out is exceptional and very vibing nightlife it has to offer. On top of that, apres skiing is something you’ll be best experiencing here.

Telluride, Colorado, USA

Standing tall at almost 4000 meters, this San Juan Mountains peak is probably best known for gold that was allegedly found here during Billy the Kid era.

However, today it’s living up to its full skiing potential with dozens of world-class pistes and hiking terrains. The state of Colorado is known for all the fun on the snow it has to offer to people visiting this beautiful American state.

Aspen, Colorado, USA

Not including Aspen on our list would be awful, don’t you agree? More or less everyone who enjoys skiing on occasion is very familiar with what Aspen ski resort has to offer.

Besides fantastic content and ski terrain, Aspen is probably best known for the fact that lots of Hollywood celebrities and royal family members can be seen there on an everyday basis. So, if you want to ski alongside Madonna or Prince Charles, Aspen is where you should go.

Meribel, France

Speaking of the best ski areas, we can’t but mention famous French 3 Valleys. Consisting of beautiful Val d’Isere, Val Thorens and Meribel, this is one of the most popular ski areas of the world.

Choosing Meribel ski resort over the other two was very tough. However, Meribel being a middle valley which makes it very easy to ski anywhere within 3 Valleys area makes it probably the best choice if you are a first-time visitor to this area.

Thredbo, Australia

Whoever thought that Australia is only suitable for sunbathing and surfing the tides was wrong. Australia’s Snowy Mountains and Thredbo ski resort in particular have been rising in popularity during the last couple of years, especially among Brit tourists who are keen on visiting this area during the European summer.

Excellent skiing infrastructure and very affordable and top-class accommodation and apartments are what makes this ski resort outstanding.

Bansko, Bulgaria

Perhaps the most luxurious ski resort of Eastern Europe is still very budget-friendly. Thus, that makes it an excellent and very frequent choice among Western European skiers. Besides everything related to actual skiing and having fun on the snow, this Bulgarian ski resort is popular among teenagers for having very vibrant nightlife.

Bormio, Italy

Italy has indeed a lot to offer and must be taken into consideration very seriously if you are planning for your winter holidays. We decided to include small mountain village town of Bormio on our list for its untouched wilderness and breathtaking scenery.

Maybe it’s not as accessible as some other ski resorts, but a very good location and north-facing mountain slopes are guaranteeing a decent amount of powder throughout the whole year.

New York City is an extremely popular destination for families with so many attractions, restaurants and hotels that are kid-friendly making this city an amazing place for your next family vacation. Like most big cities you need to carefully determine which part of town you would like to stay before choosing your family friendly hotel. Eight-Day Empowerment Adventure Yoga Retreat in Costa Rica

Balsa River rafting – Photo by Nigel Burgher

Located right outside of the small city of La Fortuna, at the foothills of the Arenal Volcano, the eco-friendly Hotel Kokoro’s cottages and wooden cabins are surrounded by volcanoes, lagoons, hot springs and waterfalls. It seems like too much to do and too little time in just eight days, but this adventure yoga retreat in Costa Rica begs to differ.

Here’s how your stay will look like: morning and afternoon yoga and meditation sessions, the rest of the day filled with outdoor activities – guided treks in the Arenal Volcano National Park, walks along Rio Celeste, hikes in Tenorio National Park, visits to Cerro Chato Volcano. Wait, there’s more! A safari float trip on the Peñas Blancas River, rafting the Balsa River, swimming in a lagoon and relaxing in the thermal waters of the Tabacon River will leave you feeling empowered indeed.

Yoga can feel pretty static at times, and there’s nothing like an adrenaline rush in the great outdoors to restore the balance. Just remember that yoga in itself is an adventure, an endless one of self-discovery.

Holiday Inn Gare de Lyon Bastille Paris Family Hotel Review

11 Rue De Lyon, 12th arrondissement – Bercy – Gare de Lyon, Paris, France – check latest prices
This Holiday Inn Gare de Lyon Bastille is slightly fancier than the nearby Novotel, and it is similarly located near the Gare de Lyon metro train station making it easy to get to for the whole family. Located in the 12th arrondissement, it is close to the Zoo de Vincennes and the Bois de Vincennes, which is the largest public park in the whole city. Then during the week, jump right on the train and head over to Disney Paris, one of the city’s hottest tourist sites for kids.

Then in the morning, don’t worry about the kids waking up early because they can enjoy breakfast right inside the room. If you need a kid-friendly location, don’t look any further. Staycity Serviced Apartments Gare de l’Est Paris Family Hotel

Staycity Serviced Apartmentss Gare de l’Est Paris Family Hotel Review

5-7 Passage Dubail, 10th arr., 75010 Paris, France – check latest prices
Staycity Serviced Apartments are consistently voted one of the best family hotels in Paris because it allows you to live in your own apartment even while travelling. Complete with two beds and a fully-stocked kitchen. Travelling with kids can be tricky because they’re picky eaters, so instead of dragging them to fancy restaurants, pick up some groceries and make them their favorites in your own place. Don’t let picky eaters spoil the fun of a vacation in Paris. You can go out to restaurants, and your kids won’t complain because you’ll have made them something at home. There’s also a boulangerie and a mini-market right around the corner, so you can easily pick up something on your way back after a day of travelling. 10 Best Campgrounds In The USA

$
0
0

The United States of America is home to some of the best campgrounds in the world. The entire region contains a collection of huge mountains, majestic lakes, and crystal clear beaches. Of course, some of these wonders are still untouched and unadulterated. They still have their original beauty and maintained to become a real paradise on earth.

If you are a camping junkie, it is certain that the land of Uncle Sam will certainly satisfy you. I am pretty sure that along the 3.8M square miles of pure natural landscape and scenery, there is a place that would give your comfort and home. If you still don’t have an idea where to go, this article will become your guide.

Crater Lake National Park, Oregon

1 - Crater Lake National Park, Oregon

This awesome landmark is actually a byproduct of the massive volcanic eruption in the past. The result of the chaos is a mesmerizing 1,900-foot lake, which is surrounded by towering cliffs and plethora of ponderosa pines. Once you are here, your eyes will certainly take the scenery as desserts. You can also enjoy various outdoor activities here, such as swimming in the lake and hiking in the trails of Pacific Crest. The ever-famous Wizard Island is actually situated within the park.

Death Valley National Park, California

Death Valley should not scare you at all. Instead, you should be inspired by the unique attractions that it offers. Throughout the entire expanse of the United States, the Death Valley provides a different perspective to the typical green American geography.

The place contains massive dunes and a wide array of sands, which make you feel that you are visiting another planet. It can become an excellent venue for campers who are eager for exploration and adventure. You can take your RV here to venture some of the best experiences that you can get in your lifetime.

Jumbo Rocks Campground, Joshua Tree National Park, California

Jumbo Rocks Campground, Joshua Tree National Park, California

The Joshua Tree National Park is the home of the Jumbo Rocks Campground. The latter is one of the most sought campgrounds in the Golden State. Fortunately, the Jumbo Rocks are not as secluded and distant as what other people think. You can reach there by hiking or trailing along the fascinating rock formations in the area. However, let me remind you that this campground has limited seats. The park only allows 124 camping tents due to preservation purposes. Therefore, it is always a good idea to come here early if you are planning to stay in the campground for a while.

Bartlett Cove Campground, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska

For many, Alaska might not be the best option for camping. After all, there is a conception that the Last Frontier has a harsh and rigid environment. But I have to break that assumption now. You have to realize that Alaska remains one of the best tourist destinations in the United States. For campers, the Bartlett Cove of the Glacier Bay National Park serves as an excellent campground.

This particular campsite is situated on a former glacier. That’s why everything there is seemingly harsh and unpaved. But don’t worry a thing. Everything that you endure here will certainly pay off. The place can offer a plethora of natural formations. Wildlife watching is also plausible here. You can spot whales, elks, wolves, and grizzly bears while standing in a safe area.

North Rim Campground, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

North Rim Campground, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

The Grand Canyon is certainly included of many bucket lists. Majestic is a complete understatement when it comes to describing this unreal land formation. Many campers are looking for ways in how they can set their feet to this place. For those who are capable of going to this natural wonder, I recommend that you should visit the North Rim Campground. It offers a conducive site for camping and sightseeing. Of course, North Rim offers friendly spots for RV camping and tent camping.

Adirondack Lakes Region Island, New York

The Adirondack Lakes Region Island should become one of your options for an excellent campground in the United States. It has an exquisite repository of freshwater lakes and private islands that you can explore (for a fee, of course). The campground is family-friendly and can become a host of various fun-filled activities.

Specifically, there are around eighty-seven campgrounds situated in this place. Some of them can be only reached by riding a canoe or kayak. They are an excellent choice for adventure-seekers like you and me!

Kalalau Beach, Napali Coast State Park, Hawaii

Kalalau Beach, Napali Coast State Park, Hawaii

Hawaii might be a separate state from the mainland, but it is definitely one of the finest destinations in the United States. The American land will never be complete without this isolated island.

Aside from surfing and wildlife watching, Hawaii is also an excellent place for camping. You can always visit the Kalalau Campground, which is situated above a cliff. To reach this place, it is necessary for you to traverse a lengthy path. It is tiring, but once you are there, you will forget all your weariness. The natural vantage point allows you to witness the expanse of the white sand beaches of Hawaii.

White River Campground, Mount Rainier National Park, Washington

The state of Washington is one of the pride of the United States. It is not only about the rich history and the impressive architectures that defined the beauty of the Evergreen State. For instance, the world-famous Mount Rainier is currently standing tall here. The volcano is surrounded by large glaciers, which are greater than the entire glacial space of all the Cascade Mountain Range.

In Mount Rainier National Park, you can always visit the White River Campground. The latter is a composition of campsites that are branched with numerous streams that eventually connect to the picturesque White River. The said glacial water body is rich with trout and salmon. Therefore, campers who are into fishing will definitely like latching here.

Chisos Campground, Big Bend National Park, Texas

Credit: https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/rio-grande-viewed-campground-section-big-722655445

Texas is one of the not-so-likely places that a camper would go in the United States. It is the wild side of the Western giant, which makes it an exquisite choice for camping. However, I remembered that the Chisos Campground is situated on this place. Therefore, it is still a place worth visiting.

The Chisos Campground is located along the elevation of the Chisos Mountain. Specifically, it has a height of 5,000 feet from the ground. You can set your campsite there if you want to view the marvelous expanse of Texas. The entire campground itself has a good source of running world and is available with multiple amenities such as toilets and grills. You can certainly feel the Texas spirit here.

Bhutan is a tiny Himalayan Kingdom situated between India and China. It has a population of just over 750,000 people. Bhutan is known for its developmental philosophy of Gross National Happiness. Bhutan believes that the progress of a nation should be measured by the happiness of its people rather than simply measuring a nation’s GDP. Bhutan was awarded the Earth Award at International Tourism Bourse in Berlin in recognition of its effort in developing and promoting sustainable and responsible tourism. Bhutan is also a carbon negative nation, it absorbs more carbon than it emits.

The following are the 10 best tourist attractions in Bhutan.

Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Paro

Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Paro
Locally known as Taktsang, the 326 years old monastery is one of the most sacred religious sites in the Bhutan. The monastery is perched 900 meters above Paro valley. Its expansive architectural structure despite the precarious location attracts thousands of tourists from across the globe every year. According to the legend, a 7th century Buddhist saint Guru Rinpoche meditated in the cave for many years to bless the land and he is said to have arrived at the site riding atop a flying tigress. Subsequently the current monastery was built around the cave. Thus the place was named the Tiger’s Nest.

The journey to the top begins at the base of a 900 meter sheer drop cliff. On a clear weather day, a white speck on a vast rocky surface can be spotted from the base. Sometimes due to its substantial elevation, the monastery remains either partially or completely concealed by slow rising mist adding a sense of excitement and adventure to the journey. The monastery is only accessible on foot however pony ride services are available. It is a 3 hour hike up to the monastery. The trail rises gradually through the pine forests. On the way up, hikers may pass by monks heading to the town to get their supplies. As the hikers approach the monastery at the top, the panoramic view of the valley below and the peaceful ambience are known to induce mindfulness. Hikers also never miss to take a picture with the backdrop of the majestic monastery. It is a must visit destination while in Bhutan.

National Museum in Paro

National Museum in Paro Dzong

The national museum of Bhutan is housed inside a medieval watch tower in Paro valley. The watch tower locally known as Ta Dzong is located above the Paro Dzong (Fortress). The circular shape structure has a two and a half meter thick wall dotted with traditional windows spread across the wall. The structure like most other fortresses in the country was built without a blue print and without the use of nails. As per historical accounts, Ta Dzong was used as a prison. Ta Dzong is also said to have an underground passage connecting the building to the Paro River. The secret tunnel was used to fetch water during the times of war. The structure was renovated and inaugurated as a textile museum in 1968 initially and later upgraded to national museum.

The museum has a collection of ancient and modern religious paintings, weapons and farming tools that dates back to the Stone Age. The museum also has an exhibition of Bhutan’s diverse ecology. Some of the highlight from the museum collection includes an egg laid by a mule, a horse horn and Stone Axe which dates back to the Stone Age.

Folk Heritage Museum in Thimphu

A 150 years old traditional house stands out surrounded by modern concrete structures close to the city center. The medieval structure is the folk heritage museum. To promote and preserve Bhutan’s cultural heritage, the house was renovated and restored to exhibit Bhutan’s ancient heritage. The main structure is a three storied mud rammed house with wooden shingles as its roof. The interior of the house simulates the setting of a 17th century lifestyle in Bhutan. The fortress in Punakha or locally known as Dzong is one of the most beautiful structures of its kind in the country. A local story about the construction of the Dzong has it that the chief carpenter back in the day was instructed to sleep within the vicinity of the site of construction. It is said that the architectural design of the Dzong was revealed to him in his dream. The impressive structural aesthetics embodies the traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan. The Dzong was constructed in 1637. After the extended civil war ended, the First King of Bhutan was crowned at the Punakha Dzong institutionalizing hereditary monarchy in 1907. Every King has begun his reign by offering prayers at the Dzong since.

The Dzong was built on the confluence of two rivers and it is approached by a traditional cantilever bridge. The six storied central tower (Utse) houses Bhutan’s most sacred relic Rangjung Kharsapani “a self-created image of the Bodhisattva of compassion.” The Dzong also has a big assembly hall graced by a towering statue of the Buddha, Zhabdrung and Guru Padmasambhava. It is here that the spiritual leader Zhabdrung who unified Bhutan was laid to rest. His body is said to have been embalmed and the temple housing his body is off limits to everyone except the King and the Chief Abbot.

Chimi Lhakhang in Punakha

Locals believe that the painting blesses the household members and raises harmony. Chimi Lhakhang is also known as the temple of fertility. People from across the country and now even popular among tourists visit this temple to offer prayers in hopes of conceiving. The monk at the temple blesses the pilgrim with a wooden phallus.

From the country’s King to a peasant, everyone enjoys a game of archery. As tradition the game is played wearing the traditional dress known as Gho (a knee length robe). Shooters focus to hit a small white target more than 100 meters away and every time someone hits the target, archers sing and dance to celebrate. Inter village competitions are very popular and the rivalry is quite intense as the pride of their village is at stake. Sumptuous food and alcohol are always a part of the event and women also sing and dance to entertain the spectators and the archers.

Mask Dance Festival

Mask Dance Festival

Mask dance festivals or locally known as Tsechu are a religious event celebrated for several days annually across the country. The events are held within or around the great medieval Dzongs (Fortress). The festival honors the 7th century Buddhist saint Guru Rinpoche who is believed to have introduced Buddhism in Bhutan. During the festival, the monks perform a series of religion inspired dances and chant prayers. It is said that it takes years for the monks to master these dances or Chaams. The monks wear extravagant silk robes and cover their faces with exquisitely hand crafted masks depicting various Buddhist gods and deities while performing Chaams. People from within the region gather at the courtyard dressed in their finest clothes to celebrate the event. It is also believed that the sacred dances invoke deities to bless the congregation. Intrigued by the visual aesthetics and cultural bonanza, the festival draws thousands of tourists every year from across the globe.

The 10 Best Weekender Bags for 2018

Best Weekender Bags in 2018

Weekend trips are one of the main staples of travelers’ lives. When we don’t have time for a weeks-long vacation, a weekend trip can scratch the travel itch and bring enrichment and joy into our traveling lives. However, to have a great weekend trip, you’ve got to have one of the best weekender bags.

Oversize luggage can be great for long vacations to foreign destinations, but may take up too much space in the luggage rack or the trunk for a weekend trip. On the other hand, you need a lot more space than your old backpack from college will provide.

The best weekender bags are all about efficiency and economy of design. Packing a lot of items neatly and securely into a small space can be a challenge for all of us, but the best weekender bags make it a breeze—meaning traveling is easier and can therefore be more fun and more frequent.

I make it my mission to help travelers find bags that are not only the best all around, but the best for them personally—for their style, their needs, and their budgets.

How to Find the Best Weekender Bag for You

Finding the best weekender bag for you consists of two important facets: finding a bag of the highest possible quality that fits your budget, and finding a bag that matches your personal style and travel needs.

That’s why I’ve included all styles of bags in this article, from totes to duffles and everything in between, and in a variety of materials and constructions from the delicate to the extraordinarily durable. I’ve also included bags at a wide range of price points, so that you can find the best choice that fits your budget.

Here are my top 10 best weekender bags for 2018, along with a little bit of information about what makes each one great.

Wowbox Weekender Bag

This offering from Wowbox boasts plenty of storage space with multiple interior and exterior pockets, and is also quite comfortable to carry over the shoulder or in the hand, with strong padded straps. The durability of this bag is one of its key points, but what really amazes me is its value in terms of the storage space it provides.

While it suits virtually all carry-on requirements and comes at a fairly low price point, it offers more than enough space to comfortably take a weekend trip, and has secure pockets for delicate and valuable belongings. Its styling is also perfect, with just a little ruggedness and a lot of European charm. FOr the latest price on this fantastic Wowbox Weekender bag check on Amazon.

Polare Genuine Leather Duffle

Polare’s large genuine leather bag will work great as a carry-on or for a long car trip. Its durable, attractive all-leather construction is sure to attract attention, and its oversized main pocket provides plenty of room for large items such as clothing. While it doesn’t offer as many extra exterior pockets as some of its competitors, there are still some available, and it makes up for this with tons of room in the main pocket.

Its distressed leather look is quite classy, without being too loud, but it is clearly a high-quality product. While you’ll pay a bit more for this bag than some others, it looks great and is sure to last a long time. Check the latest price of the Polare Genuine Leather Duffle on Amazon

Scout Weekender Bag

Scout has long been one of my favorite manufacturers of budget-conscious travel bags, and their plethora of design choices means that it’s easy to find a style to suit just about anyone. With a sturdy, zippered main pocket and designs ranging from the plain to the attention-grabbing, the Scout weekender bag is sure to please.

This bag is also water-resistant, making it the perfect bag to take to the beach. While it does have a comfortable handle at a good size, it unfortunately does not come with a shoulder strap. The bag’s lightweight yet durable construction makes carrying it by hand a breeze, though. You can pickup this bag at a great price on Amazon.

Nornou Large Capacity Weekend Bag

This simply but elegantly designed bag is available at a steal of a price, but offers the same solid construction you’d expect from more expensive offerings. It offers a wide array of side pockets, but its main pocket is still large enough to hold a laptop, a few sets of clothes, and some smaller items with ease.

One of my favorite things about the Nornou large capacity weekend bag is its comfortable unisex design. While many of the other bags on this list are more directly aimed toward women or men, this is a design everyone can be comfortable with.

Unfortunately, it does not come with a shoulder strap, which is the only real downside I found with this bag. The durability and comfort of the duffle at such a great price more than made up for this small shortfall in my opinion, though. Check out the latest price on Amazon

Malirona Canvas Weekender Bag

This canvas bag from Malirona is available in a wide array of eye-catching designs, and offers a simple and sturdy construction. While you won’t find a lot of side pockets here, its huge main pocket is good for carrying just about anything, and there is a smaller, zippered interior pocket perfect for securing a wallet or phone.

The open side pockets that the bag does offer are perfect for storing books or a tablet you may need to access during a flight, or snacks for the kids.

While I was initially attracted to this bag more for its aesthetic appeal than anything else, I came away loving its durability and large storage capacity most of all. It sits at an unexpectedly low price point, too!

Betsey Johnson Quilted Heart Weekender Bag

This weekender bag from Betsey Johnson looks to find a middle ground between being beautiful and being strong, and also offers itself up at a solidly mid-range price point. While it’s not exactly a budget option, it’s also far cheaper than a lot of bags out there.

Its array of beautiful color options and elegant design are sure to make it a favorite for travelers everywhere, but on top of this it offers a very sturdy construction and a nice interior pocket for storing valuables, phones, and wallets. It does lack a wide selection of side pockets, though.

My favorite quality of this bag is its attention to detail. While many bags with a sturdy and pretty exterior skimp on the interior, this bag has a beautifully designed, plush, and protective interior as well! Check out the latest price of the Betsey Johnson Quilted Heart Weekender Bag on Amazon

Newhey Waterproof Canvas Overnight Bag

This mid-priced option from Newhey is one of my favorites for a variety of reasons. Between its simple and rugged design and its huge advantage of being waterproof, it offers plenty of value for the adventurous traveler.

While perfectly suited for carry-on use as well, the Newhey canvas overnight bag is one of my favorites for camping and other outdoor adventures, both because of its aforementioned water resistance and its ruggedly constructed seams and rivets.

Unfortunately, it does not have a wide variety of side pockets. However, the extra-large interior is perfect for storing everything from clothes to laptops to necessary travel goodies like cameras, flashlights, and sunglasses—and to top it all off, it comes with an extremely comfortable shoulder strap. CHeck out the latest price on Amazon.

Victoria’s Secret Weekend Travel Tote

This subtle but eye-catchingly designed bag from Victoria’s Secret offers plenty of durability and capacity as well as fashion. One of my favorite things about this bag is that it comes with a matching cosmetics case.

Its large carrying capacity and secure open side pocket are also nice touches, as is its lovingly designed interior. In addition to turning heads, the Victoria’s Secret weekend travel tote is great for carrying all manner of things you’ll need to have a great time and keep looking great while on a weekend trip. It comes with a durable shoulder strap in addition to its comfort-grip handles as well. You can see the latest price on this great tote bag at Amazon.

Vera Bradley Weekender

In the world of bags, everyone knows Vera Bradley. From their beautiful, intricate designs to their mission to empower women everywhere, this company has scored a lot of points—and to top it all off, their bags are extremely durable.

The Weekender from Vera Bradley is the perfect compromise between their handbags and their oversized luggage. Made to fit comfortably in the carry-on rack, and with durability and economy of space in mind, this bag is sure to please.

While I wish it also came with a shoulder strap, I just love this bag’s handles—and with such a wide variety of Vera Bradley designs and color schemes, they’re sure to suit any taste and match any outfit. Check the latest price online at Amazon

101Snorkel XL Beach Tote

This durable, beautiful tote from 101Snorkel is great for a trip to the beach or a trip around the world. In addition to its large main pocket’s surprising carrying capacity, it features a zippered outer pocket that’s perfect for protecting your phone or tablet during a day at the beach (or a long flight).

Its comfortable mesh handles are also a great selling point, and are wide enough that most people will be able to throw them over the shoulder as well as carrying them in the hand. My favorite thing about this bag might just be the price, though—at a deep, budget-friendly discount and with plenty of durability, this bag really shines. Buy now on Amazon

Conclusion

I hope this article has helped you find the perfect weekender bag for your needs and your budget. Do you have a favorite from this list? Did I leave anything out? Let me know in the comments!
